HOLLYWOOD THEATRE

As many of you have heard we are currently involved with Adirondack North Country Alliance and the Lake Placid Film Forum in an endeavor to stay open. Hollywood studios have decided to stop all 35 mm film production as of Fall of 2013. This means that in order to stay open, we, along with all of the other small-town theaters both here in the North Country and across the country, will have to make very expensive upgrades to our equipment. These upgrades run from $50,000 to $90,000 PER SCREEN. It is expected that approximately 20% of the theaters in the United States will be closing. These are mostly small theaters in small towns, just like here in the North Country. In other countries the government has paid for these upgrades in order to keep the theaters open. The bottom line is that we will NEVER recoup this cost. We won't make more money nor will we save any by going digital. The Adirondack North Country Alliance and The Lake Placid Film Forum have volunteered to organize this fundraising effort in order to save the 10 theaters in the North Country.
